Vasyl Makhno presents his selected works in two volumes: “Skhyma” (poems) and “Hens Don’t Fly” (essays)

1/8
Vasyl Makhno is one of the most prominent voices in contemporary Ukrainian literature. The audience was impressed by his ability to craft titles that not only reflect his worldview but also echo the realities of the modern world.
We were honored to host the presentation of his two recently published books, a collection of poems and a collection of essays. The poems included in the book are both from his early career and the later period after his move to the United States. Some of the essays blend autobiographical elements with fiction, creating a unique narrative style that is distinctly Vasyl’s.
During the event, we discussed not only his writing journey but also the literary groups and influences that shaped his storytelling.
Ukraine House extends its gratitude to Vasyl Makhno for his creative and engaging presentation; Irena Chalupa, President of the Washington, DC branch of the Ukrainian National Women’s League of America, for her thoughtful moderation; and to everyone who joined us to celebrate Ukrainian culture.
