"Vowels and Consonants" by Ukrainian Writer Vasyl Makhno

1/4
Ukrainian words resonate powerfully not just in Ukraine but also here in Washington, DC. We were thrilled to host a book presentation, 'Vowels and Consonants,' by the talented Ukrainian writer Vasyl Makhno.
During the event, we illuminated the post-war literary landscape. As Vasyl highlighted, Ukrainian writers responded to the war with a cascade of poems. Each text was a unique reflection, shaped by diverse experiences – some written from the battlefront, others penned in contemplation at the rear. Both perspectives are invaluable, offering essential insights into the complexities of war.
Furthermore, Vasyl delved into the profound narratives that shaped his book, recounting vivid experiences from his knowledge of Ukrainian towns, his journey to Israel, and cherished memories of his childhood in the village with his beloved grandmother. The intensity peaked when he recited his poems, allowing each person to truly sense his emotions.
We extend our gratitude to Vasyl Makhno and Irene Chalupa for leading our guests on an exploration of the profound essence of Ukrainian literature.
