The Soul of Ukrainian Bakhmut: Motanka Dolls Exhibition
Back to Gallery
We were honored to host "The Soul of Ukrainian Bakhmut," an exhibition of contemporary folk art created by four master artisans displaced by the destruction of their home, Bakhmut, in eastern Ukraine. This collection is a powerful testament to resilience, featuring 25 handmade works, from protective Motanka dolls to cornhusk sculptures and embroidery. Many of these pieces were crafted by using textiles and clothing saved from Bakhmut before it fell.
Who are the talented artisans? Svitlana Kravchenko – Textile and author dolls; Nataliia Romenska – Traditional and interpretive folk dolls; Tetiana Holts – Cornhusk sculpture and symbolic compositions; Larisa Azimova – Embroidered works with protective motifs.
The exhibition was held at Ukraine House in March 2026.
