"Cosmogony" by Petro Antyp
On July 14, 2023, Ukraine House in Washington, D.C. opened the exhibition “Cosmogony through a Ukrainian Eye,” presenting six original works from a monumental polyptych by Ukrainian artist Petro Antyp, currently in progress at the Korsak Museum of Contemporary Ukrainian Art in Lutsk, Ukraine. Curated by Victor Korsak, the project envisions a Ukrainian interpretation of the origin of the world while aiming to become the largest painting ever created, measuring 10 meters high, 200 meters long, and covering 2,000 square meters.
Started in November 2022, the project is documented as a real-time performance, open to public participation both online and in person. The work will take 18 months and over 3,000 hours to complete and consists of 600 individual fragments, each a standalone artwork. Conceptually rooted in the Big Bang, the painting moves through civilizations to reflect our present time, shaped in constant dialogue with its audience.
